Who We Are – Abdullah’s Story

July 20th, 2021 / By triOS College

Abdullah Al Haj is a graduate of the Supply Chain and Logistics program at triOS College from our London campus. Abdullah is Libyan-born and had been working back home as a Mechanical Engineer by trade with a degree from the University of Tripoli. He enjoyed a great career in Libya’s Oil Industry but decided to relocate himself and his family due to political unrest and violence that immediately affected his family Abdullah decided on Canada as the new home for himself, his wife, and their 4 children. “When I was convinced that it’s time to find a safer place for my family, Canada was my first and best choice.” He moved the family to London, Ontario in 2013.

Abdullah and his family were happy with their new life in Canada and were really beginning to make Windsor, Ontario their new home.  Abdullah decided to enroll in the Supply Chain and Logistics program at triOS College for his second career. “I wanted to have a good job for myself and for my family. And to get a good job, I realized that I needed a good education and triOS was my best choice.” The Supply Chain & Logistics Diploma program trains students for various positions managing the lifecycle of products from their raw state to their entry into market or retail for customer purchase. Graduates of this program can find themselves working in positions across the globe such as Logistics Coordination, Production Management, Material Sourcing, Customer Facing roles, and more. Because he has a family to support Abdullah also worked part-time while he pursued his studies.

Unfortunately, after three months in Canada Abdullah’s wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Being in Canada as opposed to Libya gave the family the opportunity to pursue optimal medical treatment for her battle. Abdullah tended to his wife and family while working as he continued to pursue his studies. The family pushed on, supporting the rock of all their collective lives, but unfortunately, Abdullah’s wife succumbed to her cancer in July of 2018. The loss took a huge toll on the family. Abdullah worked through his grief by contributing to his community, volunteering at his local mosque teaching Arabic and Koran to children in the community.

After successfully completing and graduating from the Supply Chain and Logistics program Abdullah was hired on by his internship employer. Northstar Windows and Doors was so impressed with his work that they made an offer as soon as he received his diploma. Abdullah is now doing well and continues to work with Northstar.
